For Mariana’s final project in her Bachelor’s Degree, she worked on a series of handmade scratchboard banners exploring stained glass, windows, frames and portals. This artwork, titled Enigma, is composed of fifteen banners and a triptych inspired by Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Rococo. It incorporates their aesthetic of motifs, geometric forms, symmetry and patterns, using techniques such as handmade scratchboard, paper cut-outs, and ink and watercolour drawings. Its dimensions measure up to 1.2 metres in height and 3.8 metres in width, with vibrant colours arranged in a matching palette of complementary tones. Designed as a stained glass window, her project is made of fragmented pieces of different sizes that from a distance resolve into a whole art piece. It reflects on human perception of life, which is never experienced in its fullness, but instead as fragmented moments. This photograph was taken on her presentation day at FBAUL.
